Four new must-try Philly restaurants

Philadelphia is heaven for foodies. Between experiencing the latest destinations and paying homage to your favorites, there just aren’t enough dinners in the week.

Simplify your “must-try” list by visiting these four new arrivals. (Please note that this list focuses more on innovative menus than fine dining.)

1. Perla

1535 South 11th Street

If you’ve never tried Filipino cuisine, set sail for Perla on your maiden voyage. Chef Lou Boquila has reinvented the flavors of his childhood into a hip and modern selection of culinary treats.

Not sure what to order? No worries. All meals are served in a four-course prix fixe format.

2. Maison 208

208 South 13th Street

Chef Sylva Senat’s long-awaited new eatery is finally open for business. Featuring a retractable roof and charming bar, Maison 208 offers a menu that’s French inspired with a twist.

The agneau lamb loins offer a unique take on this cut, and the Asian beurre monté delivers one of most interesting filet mignons in Philadelphia.

3. Res Ipsa Cafe

2218 Walnut Street

Honored on Bon Appétit’s renowned list of “America’s 50 Best New Restaurants,” Res Ipsa in Rittenhouse Square offers something not generally seen in a top restaurant: all-day service and a menu that delivers breakfasts as unforgettable as the chef’s dinner entrées.

If you find yourself on Walnut Street before noon, drop in for a to-die-for breakfast sandwich. The owners also run ReAnimator in Fishtown, so you know the coffee’s good, too.

4. The Love

130 South 18th Street

Stephen Starr’s 35th restaurant is a sophisticated yet happy-go-lucky affair featuring one-of-a-kind décor, including handcrafted fixtures and unique commissioned wallpaper. An upper-level loft with country-style dining provides an idyllic setting for private parties or a cozy ambiance to share an afternoon snack. The menu is both creative and healthy. You’ve got to give it a try.
