Philadelphia’s Signature Street: Avenue of the Arts

Few cities in the country have a single street that defines them quite like the Avenue of the Arts in Philadelphia. It has grown to become the heart of our city aesthetically, socially, economically and culturally.

From mainstream music and theater venues to luxury hotels, exquisite dining, fantastic shopping and vibrant galleries, any true Philadelphian can quickly name their favorite Avenue of the Arts hangouts.

Recognized by the American Planning Association as one of the “Great Places of America,” there’s always somewhere new to explore. Here are a few of our best-loved spots for your next rendezvous.

Restaurants

  • Private Dining at Vetri – Upholding a long-established reputation as one of the most respected and influential Italian restaurants in the country, Vetri offers a tasting menu only format to fully showcase the constantly evoling, dynamic creative of Chef Marc Vetri. A Philadelphia native, Chef Vetri has truly outdone himself since returning home following years working in fine kitchens across the U.S. and Italy. Private dining is available by reservation in the charming second floor dining room.
  • Barbuzzo Mediterranean Kitchen & Bar – Serving locally sourced farm-fresh plates in a charming atmosphere you simply won’t want to leave, Barbuzzo is a quintessential example of what it’s like to keep your finger squarely on the pulse of the upscale casual restaurant scene.

Museums & Galleries

  • Carre d’artistes Art Gallery – The relaxed atmosphere at Carre d’artistes is truly unique. Four sizes, four prices, nothing but high-end original artwork. Even those who can afford a much more expensive gallery find shopping for art here to be a truly refreshing experience.
  • Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts – Set in the Historic Landmark Building and Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building, PAFA encourages the next generation of great American artists. See what’s currently on display.
  • Arader W Graham III Art Galry – A unique little spot where you’ll find antique maps and similar wares ideal for adding a bit of classic charm to your den, study or library.

Visual Arts

  • Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts – An icon of Rittenhouse Square and a world class venue. Home to the Philadelphia Orchestra and host to a wide variety of talented musicians across all genres.
  • Wilma Theater – The Mission Statement of the Wilma says it all: “To create living, adventurous art. To engage artists and audiences in imaginative reflection on the complexities of contemporary life.”
  • Prince Theater – Home to Philadelphia’s largest movie screen and host to the Philadelphia Film Festival. It’s hard to imagine any aficionado of the silver screen passing a year without several visits to the Prince.

Shopping

  • Tiffany & Co. – You can travel the globe in search of one but at the end of the day there really is no place quite like Tiffany.
  • Goorin Brothers – The gold standard for purchasing fine hats for men and women in Philadelphia. Located off Rittenhouse Square.
