Fitler Square – Schuylkill River Park Dog Run
For the most elite dog park in Philadelphia, head to 25th and Spruce Streets for Schuylkill River Park Dog Run. This park runs along the river and is designed for large and small pups—each with their own area. You won’t have to worry about your pet getting muddy, as the park is laid with synthetic grass. Fido will love the extravagant drinking fountain!
Washington Square West – Seger Park Dog Run
Seger Park at 1020 Lombard Street is the perfect place to spend the afternoon with your four-legged family member. About 10,000 square feet of the park is portioned off as a fenced-in dog run. If you’re looking to avoid a crowd, the busiest hours are early mornings and late afternoons. The park association suggests an annual donation of $50 to help cover the cost of replacing the wood chips a couple times per year.
Old City – Market Street Dog Run
Market Street Dog Run, located at 1 Delaware Avenue near Penn’s Landing, has narrow gravel runs and separate sections for small and large dogs. Sit down and take in the view of the Ben Franklin Bridge while your pup plays.
Queen Village – Mario Lanza Dog Park
Located at 200 Catherine Street, Mario Lanza Dog Park is a large park with a gravel dog run. Your pup will love the water hose and treat dispenser but bring a few doggie bags as none are provided. The neighborhood pet association hosts regular social events at the park, and nearby restaurants take part in dog-themed evenings during the summer with drink and menu specials.
University City – Chester Avenue Dog Park
Active pups love the Chester Avenue Dog Park, located at Cedar Park at Chester Avenue and 48th Street. There’s a kiddie pool for the pups along with ramps, hurdles and toys. This park is for members only and all dogs and owners are interviewed during the application process. Only 165 households are granted access to the park, so there may be a waiting list. When accepted, owners must pay a $50 key deposit, an annual fee of $60 and volunteer for at least eight hours of park cleanup.
East Passyunk – Columbus Square Dog Park
Located on 12th Street between Reed and Wharton, the Columbus Square Dog Park was recently renovated and is an open space best suited for friendly, social dogs. There are picnic tables for owners to relax and regular visitors to the park organize events like pool parties for the dogs. The park is busiest between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Fishtown – Palmer Doggie Depot
Palmer Doggie Depot is a smaller dog park, but it’s well maintained by a group of volunteers. The park has a doggie fountain and solar lighting, but there aren’t many shaded areas, so bring the sunscreen and shades during the summer. The park is ideal for social pets and owners. Northern Liberties – Orianna Hill Dog Park
Visit the exclusive members-only Orianna Hill Dog Park at 900 North Orianna Street. Membership is free, but a $50 annual donation is suggested. Pet owners can register online, take part in a short orientation and get their pet’s VIP dog tag. The park is about one acre and has benches throughout. This is a perfect park for dogs that need to run.
